Hans van Riet is an award winning multi camera television director with nearly three decades of experience that is as wide ranging as the markets in which he has directed. Hans started his career in the Netherlands during the renaissance of variety and birth of reality programming. It was in those early days working with Endemol’s co-founder John de Mol, that Hans made many television formats into international successes. Working in the rich diverse culture of the Netherlands helped shape his unique approaches to common formats. It is that background that was inspirational in the style of directing and work ethic that drives Hans’ success here in the states.
Hans is not afraid of taking risks and uses his out of the box thinking and expertise in cutting edge technology to direct live, 3D, game shows, award shows, music, variety, talk and unscripted competition formats. Working with very constrained budgets in Europe trained him to come up with cost effective solutions and work under tight deadlines.
Besides Dutch television awards, Hans has an International Emmy as well as an international Rose d'Or nomination for the Dutch series All You Need is Love. He also has ACE Eddie and Emmy nominations for his editing work in the states.
Hans’ experience in unscripted reality ranges from massive productions like the long running CBS hit show The Amazing Race for which Hans directed the inaugural season to live cable network productions like Opposite Worlds.
Whether it's the fast paced, shot in real time, 20 camera game show Cha$e for Syfy Channel or the outrageously funny and irreverent Bam’s Bad Ass Game Show for TBS, Hans’ game show expertise allows for endless possibilities, ideas and creativity.
From the first ever 3D live broadcast of the New Year’s Day family favorite, the Tournament of Roses Parade to world renowned superstars like Gloria Estefan, Lionel Richie, Julio Iglesias, and The Gipsy Kings, Hans has directed a wide variety of concerts and specials.
